Episode Six: Conflict/Resolution
Christmas time comes and goes. Work continues. The holidays are spent with Ryan first visiting his Father and Teresa at their home about a week early, since Teresa’s daughter, Janet, is going out of the country for Christmas.
The occassion is marred only by Ryan’s early departure to get to work. The Christmas rush keeps the night crew busy, and Sundays continue to leave Ryan without any sleep for nearly 36 hours, but he persists.
Christmas Eve is spent with Ryan’s maternal aunts. He receives mostly cash from his aunts, which he intends to put toward a purchase later on. His most treasured gift, though, is a word of encouragement that his Aunts pass on from just before his mother’s passing. Suddenly things don’t seem so bad.
2005 comes to a close and 2006 begins. Ryan’s manager starts to train him to take over primary operation of the frozen food section. He’ll still have to work other aisles as needed, but his primary responsibility will be ordering for, and maintaining, the frozen foods.
Everything’s copacetic, until Ryan receives a call from his father. Ryan’s grandfather had a heart attack and was in the hospital. Ryan would have gone with his father to visit, but he had to go to work.
While at the hospital, though, Ryan’s father and his aunt finally resolve their differences. The family strife that has split them since May, is finally resolved.
