Wishing for Christmas
When I was little, I used to sit and flip through the department store catalogs and daydream about all the toys that I wanted for Christmas. I’d lie in the floor and imagine having this toy, or that action figure, and write it down as a wishlist for my parents — I already knew the truth re: Santa.
But now I find myself, so many years later, in a similar circumstance. I’m browsing online stores and devising a purchase plan for some neat toys. Of course, I’m not making this out for my parents, I’m trying to come up with a plan to save up enough and buy them myself.
It’s tech related, and in a sense it’s also media related. That is to say, if I start down this path, it could potentially lead to my long-ago dreamed future of media production. I just don’t know if this is the correct path to go. Do I spend over $1,000 on some stuff that I might not end up using as much as I think I will? Will I embark upon this pathway, and discover that it’s not what I expected? Will I be essentially throwing away several hundred dollars for something that I only think I want?
Such is my conundrum. Sure, I want the new toys, but just how much will I play with them? How much will they benefit me? If I settle for something cheaper but less featured will I still benefit as much if this venture plays out the way I hope it would?
No matter what I’m going to wait until the first of the year to make a final decision. That should give me enough time to think about it, and weigh the issues. It should also give me some time to save the money, just in case.

I totally understand. I do the same thing constantly. That is why I have a couple of thousand dollars worth of equipment for podcasting and video. I just kept buying. That is why I have a couple hundred dollars in my possession for “blow money” and I am constantly trying to figure out what to spend it on.
Just have patience. It has been my experience that you get what you pay for. I normally start major things small and step up. I have done that with many things. Of course, I have also recently purchased a boat that wasn’t a small step. Oh well. It’s all just stuff that will burn later anyway.
