Abandonment

I have been accused — and rightly so — of being rather disdainful of a vast majority of the human race.  Particularly the stupid ones.  Well, tonight I think I’m justified.

It’s raining, tonight, as I work.  And yet someone still has the audacity to leave in a shopping cart in the parking lot a pet cat.  Somebody abandoned their pet, in a carrier, complete with toys and little cat igloo, bed, the whole smash.

I’m not much of a cat person, but we’ve had cats when I was growing up, and it wasn’t that bad.  When my father had to get rid of our pets when we moved I was sad.  Another connection to the past gone.  Another set of lives changed radically.  They would never have a life as good as they had.

Now some person leaves a cat in a parking lot in the rain.  That’s cruel.

We took it into the store and somebody will probably  take it in.  I would but for a couple reasons:  1) I’m not much of a cat person.  2) I’m not really equipped to take on a pet.  3) I’m very likely to be moving in a few months and who knows if I’d be in a position to have a pet at that point.

Still, it makes me mad that somebody would just abandon the thing.

Even though I know you better than the vast majority of people, I don’t know that I would have predicted this response. But I am glad. I love cats. You’ll have to get used to having at least one around.

Oh I’m full of surprises …

Why not predict the response? The animal was not at fault. You are not cruel. Of course you would be irritated at someone for leaving them… Where I used to live it happened all the time, we were far enough away from town people thought they could drop them off but not so far that it was too out of their way… It was sad. I found homes for a lot of animals…. People are irresponsible… and cruel.

You are full of surprises, my dear, but so am I. And your surprises are surprising me less and less. I think I am getting used to you. Is that alright?

  5. Ryan Says:

I don’t have a problem with it if you don’t.

I don’t know if I would have predicted the righteous anger. But I guess I am not surprised you feel sorry for the little thing. I want a kitty… I miss my kitty.

Can we get an update about your life? I loved the cat vignette (even though it was sad), but I would love for you to write about what is going on. Well, I already know what’s going on, but I enjoy being able to publicly comment on it.

I second that… even more now that it’s been a week.

    Forgo that… I am satisfied.
