Acquisition Mode

I’ve got three or four video projects scheduled in the near term. Consequently I’ve found myself buying a lot of video equipment. It started with a really good deal on a camera, then I needed a tripod. Next I needed sound and lighting equipment. Lighting is relatively easy to find cheap … the most expensive component being stands to actually hold the lights. Of course, better lights will cost more, but I can use cheap stuff now and get decent results. I’ve even built a light for $20.

Sound is my weakest area of experience, and also it’s one of the most expensive areas I’ll be diving into. I’ve got a microphone on order, but it’s backordered so I may or may not have it in time for the first project.

I’m also buying little stuff for this first project; stuff for wardrobe, little nick-nacks for background use, stuff to redress our set … It’s like doing Red House all over again, but applying all the lessons learned from that tortuous experience.

Yeah, that will not be repeated. And you have had to buy a lot less that you thought you would. So be nice.

I’m not complaining. I’m just pointing out that I’m getting a lot of cool stuff; like microphones, lights, light stands, C stands, etc. I’m excited. I really am.
