Journaled

I have been told that I need to keep a journal. Sure, I could record all the exciting events of the day by making marks on bits of paper stuck together, but this is the 21st century. Plus I’ve got this site and haven’t really put it to any good uses. So we’ll see what happens if I can arrange to write in this thing regularly.

So.

First entry.

It’s April 15, 2010. It’s the deadline for filing Income Taxes in the United States. My job deals with tax software. Today was crazy.

Actually probably crazier than normal. When I got in the office in the morning I found out the phone’s were down, and that the E-File Center for one of the two tax programs we support was down with a fairly nightmare database error. It took them all morning, but by early afternoon they finally got it sorted out. In the meantime we pushed to get customers renewed and offered them the other software package we have so that they could continue to file.

I think today we’ll have received over 1,000 calls.

I had to stay an hour and a half late because we wanted to make sure we could handle the additional traffic. Although I didn’t actually talk to the customers, I worked as floor-support for the rest of the techs that were taking calls.

I was up late last night, and got very little sleep. I haven’t felt that hazy since the “dark times” of working nights. Yes, I’ve done it before, but not for a while. And when I had to do that at my old job it was a matter of simply physical stamina. Today was an issue of mental capability. I’ve found that my brain seems to use up more energy than my muscles.

I have nothing more to talk about right now.

End of line.
